Dr. Egon Spengler, Harold Ramis, dies at 69

Harold_RamisUnited Talent Agency confirmed this morning to ABC news that actor and writer Harold Ramis died at 69 years old.

Ramis was surrounded by family in his Chicago home, where he’s lived since 1996, when he died early this morning from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, his wife Erica Mann Ramis told the Chicago Tribune.  His rare disease involved a swelling of the blood vessels and the report adds that his health issues began in 2010. His condition was so bad in the past, the actor/writer/director had to relearn to walk.

Ramis was a Chicago native and earned a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.  He got his start in the late 1960’s at Chicago’s Second City theater troupe.  He is know for much of his off-screen work including writing Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, and Analyze This.  His big break came when he wrote National Lampoon’s Animal House in 1978 and his directorial debut came in 1980 with Caddyshack.  His latest work was for a 2009 movie Year One in which he wrote, directed and was featured in alongside Jack Black and Olivia Wilde.  His Ghostbusters co-star, Dan Aykroyd, also told ABC News last spring that Ghostbusters 3 could film this year and that Ramis was “in on it.”

“His creativity, compassion, intelligence, humor and spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him,” read a press release from his agency.

Ramis is survived by his wife Erica, sons Julian and Daniel, daughter Violet and two grandchildren.

Behind the Scenes of Ghostbusters

A behind the scenes shot of Ghostbusters.  This is actually from a series of deleted scenes from the film.  There were several scenes before the motorcade left city hall that never made the final cut of the film.

Sci-Fried Eggs Episode 4 #130529

This week the Sci-Fried Eggs come back home to their studios at Bathurst Manor.  Chuck tries to explain the season finale of Doctor Who to Doc who has no idea what is going on.  The Eggs share an interview with scream queen Cyndi Crotts from XCon.  Also, at Port City Pop Con a couple weeks back, the Eggs sat down with Doug Jones, also known as Abe Sapien of Hellboy fame and many other roles such as characters from Pan’s Labyrinth.  Doc and Chuck also discuss who would win in a fight: Han Solo or Malcolm Reynolds.  And the Eggs also share an interview with the well-traveled, well-versed, and former Disney Imagineer Paris Themmen, who you also may know as Mike Teavee from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
